The Ministry of Communications vision on SHuTT 2003 and with the establishment of BIMP-EAGA will make the maritime arena of Maritim Negara Brunei Darussalam will be more demanding and competative. Transportation of goods in large quantities will use maritime vessels specifically Merchant ships plying in and out through sea routes. On this aspect Marine Department will contribute developing two main programs aimed towards building up the nation's infrastructure development and economy.

    • Development of infrastructure and services.
    • Privatisation of services.


Development of infrastructure and services

1. Monitoring of shipping in Belait river - ongoing awaiting new station

2.Deepening surrounding waters of Muara Port to 12.5m a.c.d - awarded , implemented 2000 and completed end of 2000.

Privatisation of Services

1. RFP projects:

  • OffBerth Bunkering Service
  • Pilotage and Tug Service
  • Car and Passenger Ferry
  • Ship Building and Repair Yard
  • Marina


2. Cruising services.

3. Leasing of Marine Department's dredger ( Tg. Berambang )


With the establishment of the projects within the two main development programs Marine
Department hopes to:

    • Increase the number of merchant ships by promoting ship owners to register their ships in Negara Brunei Darussalam.
    • Maintain the safety of navigation and prevention of pollution from ships..
    • To establish more competitive services in Muara Port.
